By participating in protests across the country and around the world, supporters of the No Kings movement joined together to educate others and call attention to the abuse of power in the current administration.
The movement takes a stand for democracy and against dictatorship of the Trump administration, which is damaging the values of America.
“This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. And together, we’re choosing democracy,” No Kings said.
President Donald Trump’s disrespect and disregard for American democracy are the fuel for the current No Kings protests and sentiment.
“The world saw the power of the people, and President Trump’s attempt at a coronation collapsed under the strength of a movement rising against his abuses of power,” No Kings said.
Trump has shown his lack of needed care and compassion for his role.
He has consistly proven to the American public that the people are not his priority.
“Because this country does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People, the people who care, who show up, and who fight for dignity, a life we can afford, and real opportunity,” No Kings said.
According to protester Kaitlyn Caldwell, the movement shows that the Constitution needs to be abided by.
“Donald Trump and the Trump administration [are] abusing the Constitution and he is abusing their power to the point that we are getting closer to authoritarianism,” Caldwell said. “While saying No Kings may be slightly drastic, the point is to show the public that our Constitution must be upheld.”
The protest experience has been a meaningful and positive time for many people.
“It’s honestly so hard to put into words what you are feeling standing there, and you see that there are people who care. It’s cool to see that people have your shared belief and want for change,” Caldwell said.
The peaceful protest that Caldwell attended was held at Lenape Park.
Similar demonstrations in New York were participated in by thousands.
“Thousands packed New York City’s iconic Times Square and streets all around, with people holding signs with slogans like ‘“Democracy not Monarchy”’ and “‘The Constitution is not optional,”’ BBC said.
Following current politics is very important for people of all ages.
“Lots of people don’t care to follow politics, which I think is crazy because everything impacts you directly. This administration continues to abuse its power, and that is not what America stands for,” Caldwell said.
Protests are an important and effective display of opinions and voices in the country that need to be listened to.
“That’s why the public protests are a big deal because people, even if they are not participating, get to see the cause,” Caldwell said.
No Kings also adds that having specifically peaceful protests is important to the movement.
“A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events,” No Kings said.
According to The American Prospect editor Harold Meyerson, there are more No Kings protests and events being planned after the success in participation of the ones held on October 18.
“Come July 4th, the opportunity to both celebrate our foundational values and condemn Donald Trump requires us to go beyond the No Kings demonstrations we’ve held up to now,” Meyerson said.
While there has been important work done through No Kings, the work of the mission is far from complete.
“The fight doesn’t end here,” No Kings said. “The work now is to stay ready, stay connected, and keep fighting back.”
In order to be successful, the movement needs more people to campaign and be involved.
“This movement needs all of us, whether you can show up and bring friends, or you’re ready to get more involved by connecting with people locally to elect candidates,” Action Network said.
The cause will only move forward if the people who care step up to the plate and show their passion. Without the people involved, the movement does not have the fuel it needs to make change.
“The No Kings protests are starting off with much greater public support,” The Alantic writer David A. Graham said, “and they need only to maintain momentum through the 2026 and 2028 elections in order to turn the protests’ sentiment into concrete votes that could restrain Trump and remove his allies from office.”
