By romanticizing the fall, more students become motivated through their schoolwork and outside life, as a structured schedule resumes with the start of a new school year.
Returning to school is difficult after the relaxed pace of the summer.
However, there is a comfort in fall that feels motivational through the seasonal and environmental aspects.
As fall begins, pumpkin flavors start to appear at local cafes, often at the time when coffee shops experience their highest sales of the year.
According to Starbucks, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian Niccol celebrates the sales that occurred when Starbucks launched its 2025 fall menu.
“I shared that Tuesday’s Fall launch was our strongest Tuesday sales day ever,” Niccol said. “You continued that momentum through the week, helping us deliver a record-breaking sales week across our U.S. company-operated stores.”
With high sales at coffee shops during the fall, such as Starbucks, it seems more tempting to take work and studies to a local coffee shop while enjoying a seasonal drink, and primarily aiming to make school more enjoyable by fostering a productive atmosphere.
Research from Harvard Business Review found that focusing in a coffee shop is more effective than working in an open office.
“Instead of total silence, the ideal work environment for creative works has a little bit of background noise. That’s why you might focus really well in a noisy coffee shop,” Harvard Business Review says.
As pumpkin flavors return, it symbolizes the transition into fall.
Other seasonal features that represent fall are the change of color in leaves and the harvest season.
As the fall demonstrates fulfillment and change, it can also be reflected in students and their work.
As leaves start to change from green to brown and yellow, it may also change the way students approach their work habits, as change is happening all around them.
As pumpkins and apples are harvested, after months of growing, it is a rewarding experience.
Now, as students adopt a new style of work, all their dedication and time will be rewarded with good grades and accomplishments in the weeks and months to come.
Along with seasonal changes, the change in the atmosphere also brings cooler weather from the heat of summer.
Compared to long, hot summer days, cooler weather encourages work to be more consistent and focus-oriented due to the shorter, colder days.
The Harvard Business School conducted a study to determine if work productivity is affected by the weather outside.
The research results concluded that sunny days decrease productivity, while rainy days increase productivity due to the desire to be active outside.
“Autumn has sprung, and the cold, dreary days of winter are around the corner,” Harvard Business School said. “It turns out that lousy weather is actually good for business operations.”
Additionally, with the heat of summer, it drains energy.
This results in a reduced urge to be proactive.
In comparison, the cooling conditions of fall rebuild the energy lost in the summer.
