Due to the performances of actors Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio in their latest movies, both have strongly put their case forward for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
On September 26, Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie “One Battle After Another” came out, which starred the well-known and developed actor Leonardo DiCaprio and quickly received praise from critics for his role in the movie as Bob Ferguson.
DiCaprio’s portrayal of this character was absolutely perfect, as he made the character believable and hilarious.
However, this performance was not only limited to the standard that DiCaprio has set for his performances in the past, it also exceeded those very same expectations that were already very high.
DiCaprio is one of the most well-known names in Hollywood, and anything that has his stamp on it is going to be held to a standard that other projects would not.
And, despite these expectations, DiCaprio has put on a masterclass performance worthy of earning his second Oscar.
Now, normally, this type of portrayal would almost be guaranteed to win him the award; however, another generational performance was put on display by yet another A-list actor.
On Christmas Day, following one of the best press tours of all time by the studio A24, which included Timothée Chalamet standing on top of the Las Vegas sphere and a long list of famous athletes and artists promoting the movie by wearing its merch, “Marty Supreme” came out after one year of production and even more in training.
In 2018, the director of “Marty Supreme,” Josh Safdie, approached Timothée Chalamet and asked if he would be interested in starring in the role of Marty Mouser, a character loosely based on a table tennis player in the early to mid-1900s. Following this meeting, Timothée Chalamet trained in table tennis for years before production to make his performance believable.
This dedication to his role was most certainly seen when the final product came out.
His performance was widely praised, and the movie became A24’s best-ever box office production.
These two performances that both actors put on were phenomenal, and in any other year, they would have surely won the Oscar. But this is not any other year.
On March 15, when the Academy Awards take place, the race for this award will end, and no matter which decision is made, one of the best performances in recent memory will have been snubbed from an Oscar.
When I watched both movies, what stood out to me was obviously both actors’ individual performances.
However, if I had to pick one, Timothée Chalamet’s masterful performance in “Marty Supreme” would win.
