To share festive holiday spirit with loved ones, friends often come together to have a memorable Friendsgiving with each other and create memories throughout the week of Thanksgiving.
According to Merriam-Webster, Friendsgiving became a popular tradition to celebrate with friends in the early 2000s.
The tradition is a nice way to spend time with friends.
“I think it’s important to spend quality time with your friends. Being able to share a special moment with your friends and being able to hang out with them, enjoying things,” junior MacKenna Atkinson said.
According to junior Ariah Bennett, Friendsgiving is important to her because it “brings everyone together” and lets people spend time with the people they are closest to.
Even though Thanksgiving is the main holiday of the season, many prefer Friendsgiving for a variety of reasons.
“I like being with my friends more, and I feel like you can talk to your friends about stuff you can’t talk to your family about,” Atkinson said.
Freshman Olivia Biase enjoys sharing the tradition with her close people.
“Hanging out with my friends and just spending time with my favorite people is my favorite part about it. It’s not only about the holiday. It’s more about my friends being there all together with each other,” Biase said.
According to sophomore Aubri Trout, Thanksgiving is not any less important than Friendsgiving, because sometimes “you see your friends more than you realize,” but she enjoys celebrating Thanksgiving just as much.
During the holiday with friends, the conversations over meals bring friends together,
“I feel like you can talk to your friends about stuff you can’t talk to your family about,” Atkinson said.
Many view Friendsgiving as being just as valuable as Thanksgiving.
“Friendsgiving definitely does bring everyone together, especially friends that I haven’t seen in a while, and I think that’s super fun,” Biase said.
