By offering subpar chicken-based meals, both KFC and Royal Farms failed to meet our expectations; however, they offer unique qualities and features unlike any previous chicken restaurants we’ve dined at.
The menu options at both Royal Farms and KFC are nearly identical.
Each offers various options of sides and main choices of fried chicken.
You can order a variety of fried chicken in many different types at both restaurants. Royal Farms, however, offers much more diversity in its menu options, especially in its choice of sides.
Royal Farms doubles as a gas station, which means it can offer a wider variety of food aside from just fried chicken.
The choice of drinks and sides is much broader at Royal Farms because of this double function.
At Royal Farms, if you order a meal, it comes with a side, which can be fries, mac and cheese or even mashed potatoes.
Royal Farms also serves snacks at the register, giving you even more options for food.
While you have many options to eat really whatever you want at Royal Farms, the quality of the food is where the restaurant loses major points.
The chicken at Royal Farms wasn’t great compared to past chicken restaurants we have reviewed.
It was not crispy or necessarily warm; the quality fell off with each bite you took.
Aside from the chicken, the sides that came with them weren’t appetizing either.
We got potato fries that were cold and stiff and almost tasted stale.
Both of us ended up not finishing our meals, and each of us was left disappointed with the restaurant and food.
This disappointment was only made greater because of the distance we travelled to get to these restaurants.
KFC was almost 30 minutes away in Royersford. And, it makes no sense why either of these restaurants has any appeal to anyone for their chicken.
Besides the chicken itself, Royal Farms has the incentive of convenience.
Since it is located inside a gas station with other food and drinks, and next to gas pumps that have an obvious importance, it has reasons to still be a place to go to.
However, KFC has none of this.
This sorry excuse of a restaurant has nothing that we decided was important for a chicken restaurant.
The sauce options were average at best and really only offered the bare minimum to be at that average level.
The chicken was atrocious.
The breading was nothing compared to any of the other restaurants we have reviewed, and, somehow, the flavor of the chicken was one of the worst parts.
Genuinely, how is it possible to mess up the flavor of chicken that badly?
Now, Royal Farms has many of these same problems, but again, this isn’t their sole reason for existing.
KFC is a pointless restaurant and a shame to the chicken industry that we have come to be familiar with over the past few reviews.
That being said, the one thing that KFC does well is its advertising and packaging.
Colonel Sanders is one of the most recognizable mascots in all of fast food and does make the restaurant have a slightly more homey feel to it.
