After practicing all of their material and choreography, the cast and director of “Newsies” prepared for their spring musical on March 19-22 at the high school.
Through multiple months of practices, the cast and director went over pages of lines and music.
According to sophomore Angelina Perry, who is a part of the ensemble, she liked to go over her scenes and her choreography.
She attempted to go through them individually while reviewing them at the same time.
“I make sure that I know what I am doing and feel confident in the steps it takes to get there,” Perry said.
For senior Elijah Bleazard, he intently rehearsed all of his lines and his music in his free time.
“Sometimes I write them down and then I tape them onto the wall in my room,” Bleazard said. “If they are really hard and I really can’t get them, I try to go through them as much as possible.”
Most members of the cast practiced in different ways.
For junior Leah Callahan, she liked practicing at home in the weeks leading up to the show days.
“I go home and I’ll sit down at my piano, play the [music] track and sing along,” Callahan said.
For a majority of the cast, they enjoyed the amount of energy that was being put into all the scenes.
“My favorite highlight from the show is definitely some of the choreography we have done because it’s fun,” Bleazard said. “Just the high energy, we get to have a lot of fun with all the newsies together as a group.”
For director Lori Maxwell, she enjoyed seeing how much fun the cast had together and “letting the kids play around when we do our little scene work.”
Along with playing around during scene work, Maxwell said that she has enjoyed watching all of the cast having fun together.
“Everybody is having fun, which is the most important part,” Maxwell said.
Bleazard said he has enjoyed the choreography rehearsals as they have always been fun no matter what he was working on. He said the whole cast was “killing it” with everything they have worked on.
