After a long-awaited three-year hiatus from artist Harry Styles, his fourth studio album “Kiss All The Time. Disco Occasionally” came out on March 6 with a twelve-song track list.
Before Styles released the album, he held 40 listening parties around the world, giving fans an opportunity to hear before the rest of the world.
Fans reported that the album is very different from his other albums, creating a house-music vibe that keeps people dancing the whole time, with an eclectic disco feel.
These reports did not lie, and throughout the album, it has plenty of synth-pop sounds that make each song feel so alive and can make people dance without even realizing it.
In a Capital FM interview, Styles explained how he wants fans to react to his fourth album at his Together Together tour, starting in May.
“I just want them ready to dance. I want them to come be ready with their friends, close their eyes, open their eyes, dance,” Styles said. “Let it go, be whatever, whoever they are in that moment and I’ll be right there with them.”
The album is truly a no-skip one, as each song is its own, bringing a different energy while maintaining the same vibe.
There are many dance-oriented songs on the album, but the ones that stand out the most are “Pop,” “Ready, Steady, Go!” and obviously “Dance No More.”
These three songs have a steady, energetic beat and synthesizers that make it easy for people listening to have fun and move their bodies a little, whether it is just bopping their heads or swaying to the music.
As for the slower songs, “Coming Up Roses” and “Paint By Numbers,” they add a bit of diversity to the album, featuring orchestral instruments.
“Coming Up Roses” has a beautiful, romantic ending, with a section of “la-la-la-la” layered over the violin that brings a hopeful, fresh feeling.
Styles’ career began when he was a member of One Direction, which disbanded in January 2016, and this album features songs that evoke nostalgia for that time period.
The album starts with “American Girls,” which has a catchy chorus that sounds like a boy band song and sticks in your head.
As for another song that does not necessarily take after One Direction songs, however, it feels as though it is a tribute to former band member Liam Payne, who died in October 2024, “Paint By Numbers.”
With one lyric, “Kids with water guns, watch them run,” which fans reflect an on-stage moment with One Direction playing with water guns.
This song is also about the public image that comes with fame, as Styles was navigating his grief publicly after his close friend passed away.
Overall, in “Kiss All The Time. Disco Occasionally,” the whole album seems so refreshing and new, as it differs from a lot of other albums, not just Styles himself.
This album is very experimental, blending a bunch of different music genres like indie rock, pop and disco, while adding electric sounds, where he really pushes past his artistic abilities.
Not only is the musical aspect of the album unique and astonishing, but so is the overall visual style of retro disco and shimmery, dreamy vibes.
On March 8, Netflix released “Harry Styles: One Night In Manchester,” in which Styles performed his entire new album along with songs from his discography.
It is so special that he did this because it allows fans to experience a concert they may not be able to attend; now they have a clear view of the artist, visuals and the crowd.
As the Together Together tour approaches, dressing up for a Harry Styles concert is all about immersing oneself in the experience.
It makes it feel as if the album is coming to life, and as if you can connect with other fans and with Styles himself.
