With the celebration starting in late November all the way to Christmas Eve, the Philadelphia Christmas Village set up shop to unveil new attractions and many of the classical European shops and vendors.
According to Social Media and PR manager Shalin Vahle, the addition of the German Pyramid in Love Park was to showcase a more authentic and traditional Christmas Village.
“It was a whole process of planning that began in August,” Vahle said. “We wanted to have a more authentic visual experience that represents Germany and the Village.”
Along with the brand new addition to Love Park, Vahle mentions the local events that highlighted the Village this year, such as German-American weekend that showcased traditional dancers and classical German games.
“It allows people to not just see what is happening but gives them a chance to experience it for themselves,” Vahle said. “We have many games planned and a lot of new food for people to try.”
Visitors who come down to Philadelphia for the Village can find classic European delicacies and food offered throughout Love Park. It is a diverse menu that consists of strudel, German Bratwurst and a German grill.
For senior Andrew Bouw, he believes the village allows not only for people to witness other cultures and traditions during the holidays, but for the city of Philadelphia to show its appreciation for other cultures.
“I just think it’s cool that we get to host such a big event every year right in the heart of the city,” Bouw said. “We get to be a part of such a huge celebration during the holiday season that shows our true colors.”
Vahle hopes to see a positive turnaround when everything is all said and done, explaining the Pyramid is something that she hopes brings more people to view the attraction. “We just want to have positive feedback amongst all things,” Vahle said. “Our new attractions are going to be so big that you’re going to be able to see it even from far in Love Park.”
Senior Sawyer Jones is eager to see what the village is offering this year, mentioning the “new attractions and classic vendors”
“I heard there were a lot of new things going on this year, I think it would definitely be a good time to visit the city,” Jones said.
People can also help out their community and city by visiting the Festival of Trees, a donation center for people to visit while seeing the Village.
“It’s a good cause but also a fun opportunity for people to see the different designs of the trees,” Vahle said. “People can experience the holiday spirit while also donating and helping out the sick kids.”
Along with all the traditions and festive spirits making its way to Philadelphia, Santa is set to make his return to the Village this year along with other special events.
Along with Saint Nick, guests can create their own holiday decor at the Holiday Greenery Workshop starting December 3-17.
