Sporty Spice: Eagles singing trio gifts fans another Christmas album

After successfully releasing their first album, “A Philly Special Christmas,” last year, Eagles offensive linemen Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce are coming out with a second Christmas album, featuring many well-known musicians. Pre-orders began on November 3 and the whole album was released December 1.

With hopes of giving back this holiday season, all the profits from the vinyl sales of “A Philly Special Christmas Special” will be given to local Philadelphia charities.
This will be Eagles offensive linemen Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce’s second Christmas album.
While their first album had seven songs, this new album has 11 new songs, including a Kelce original titled “Santa’s Night.”
Produced by Charlie Hall and former Eagles player Connor Barwin, this album features local artists Patti LaBelle, Amos Lee, The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman, DM Hotep, Kevin Hanson, Luke Carlos O’Reilly, Waxahatchee, members of The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog, Mewithoutyou and The Silver Ages Choir.
Fans will also hear the voices of Eagles executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman, as well as Kelce’s younger brother and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on the record.
In anticipation for the album dropping, they released a new song every week starting four weeks prior.
The first song to be released was the trio’s version of Mariah Carey’s hit song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on November 3.
On November 10, “This Christmas” featuring Patti LaBelle was released and on November 15, “Fairytale Of Philadelphia” featuring Travis Kelce.
The final song released before the album was “Pretty Paper” which came out November 24.
In addition they also premiered a short stop motion animation on Thanksgiving as a promotional that showcased the trios sense of humor and holiday spirit.
The proceeds from the sales of their vinyls will go to support the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center (CCTC) and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
The Children’s Crisis Treatment Center is a private, non-profit organization that is committed to providing mental health services to children and their families in Philadelphia.
“We are dedicated to addressing the impact of child abuse, neglect, traumatic events and other challenges to early childhood development, and to assisting children in reaching their full potential within their homes, communities and society,” the CCTC said in a summary statement for A Philly Special Christmas.
Started in 1855, CHOP is the first exclusively children’s care hospital in the nation.
“Built on a foundation of delivering safe, high-quality, family-centered care, the Hospital has fostered medical discoveries and innovations that have improved pediatric healthcare and saved countless children’s lives,” CHOP said in a summary statement for A Philly Special Christmas.
Last holiday season, their debut album raised $1.25 million to benefit local Philadelphia nonprofit organizations.
This year, the goal is to surpass that.
“We had so much fun making “A Philly Special Christmas” last year that we wanted to do something extra special for this holiday season,” the trio said in a message to fans. “So we got the gang back together, invited a few more friends to the party and what happened next was magical.”
“A Philly Special Christmas Special” truly was Philadelphia’s Christmas spirit wrapped into an album.
From featuring famous Philly-born musicians to the proceeds supporting Philadelphia-based organizations, the Eagles players’ love for the city and surrounding communities shone bright.
Although they’ve been sung many times, many ways on different occasions, their spin on classic Christmas carols and their own originals are a nice addition to this Christmas season.
