Showing appreciation and gratitude for moms, people celebrate Mother’s Day annually.
The holiday was officially established in the United States in 1914. This year, Mother’s Day was held May 10.
According to junior Kylie Kehr, Mother’s Day is an important day to recognize.
“It’s important to celebrate Mother’s Day because every woman should be celebrated for their achievements and for raising young children,” Kehr said.
For senior Jessica Dymond, not only should Mother’s Day be celebrated to thank mothers, but that recognition should last year-long.
“I think Mother’s Day is really important to celebrate because all year long [moms] give all of themselves to their children and their families,” Dymond said, “and their hard work deserves to be recognized.”
According to sophomore Grace Longenecker, Mother’s Day is a great way to take the time to thank mothers for the things they do that may not always be noticed in the moment.
“Mother’s Day is important to celebrate because mothers do a lot for us and most of what they do is not acknowledged enough,” Longenecker said.
Junior Chase Snyder agrees that “unfortunately, the rest of the year, a lot of work that moms do goes unnoticed and unappreciated.”
Not only does Mother’s Day honor moms for raising their children, but it also highlights other traits of women as well.
“My favorite thing about my mom is her intelligence and independence,” Longenecker said. “She is very kind and always makes time for me even if she’s busy or feeling stressed.”
For Dymond, her mom has been her “rock” throughout her life, supporting her in “countless ways.”
“I feel like I can tell her anything and talk to her about anything, and she gives really good advice,” Dymond said. “She is a person that I can simply go to for anything, and that is one of the most valuable things I could ask for.”
Longenecker also appreciates the “comfort and advice” that her mother gives her.
Kehr “loves” her mom’s “silly personality and how she makes [her] laugh.”
According to Snyder, his mom holds such an important place in his life because of the person she has helped him become today.
“I appreciate the values my mom has instilled in me as I’ve grown up,” Snyder said. “My favorite thing about her is how understanding she is.”
Longenecker said that her mom has greatly contributed to who she is.
