As graduation approaches at a fast pace, high school seniors are beginning to feel nostalgic, realizing they are living their last moments as teenagers and begin to appreciate moments they once overlooked.
As freshmen enter high school for the first time, they feel nervous but excited about this new journey in their lives. But some tend to tell themselves, “I wish I were in college already” or “I cannot wait until I can graduate.”
These thoughts stem from increased pressure at school, getting involved in drama and a sense of maturity that they just want to grow up. However, when it hits senior year and everyone faces “last times” and the pressure of growing up, the mindset shifts to living in the present. All of a sudden, high school starts to feel nostalgic before graduation, and it feels like time is moving very quickly.
Students tend to complain about going to school and having to follow the same routine every day, but once the countdown to graduation is under 50 days, that routine suddenly feels safe.
Although seniors are ready to move on and build a new life of their own, it is scary to dive into that, especially since they will not be surrounded by the same classmates or teachers again.
Once they become aware of this, they begin to approach their day-to-day lives differently. They begin to appreciate their teachers, cherish their time walking the hallways between classes and realize they only have one more semester of high school left.
Along with being mindful, seniors also carry a memory-making mindset. Instead of worrying about homework and grades, they are trying to make the most of their senior year.
Whether that is hanging out with new people, going out to eat with friends, staying out late on school nights or attending senior skip days.
Seniors also find themselves listening to songs or watching childhood graduation scenes from movies and TV shows, which makes the reality of leaving more emotional.
Another way seniors remember these delightful moments is by documenting them, especially by taking photos with their phones or even with digital cameras.
Just looking photos taken seconds ago already makes the moment feel nostalgic and reflective.
Living in the present, before high school becomes a memory
Seniors are starting to reflect on the past year and not take any moment for granted in the last month of school.
