What’s up Peeps…Enjoying a waffle, junior Abby Nyce eats breakfast at Peep’s Diner in Harleysville, Pa. The diner is open everyday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

With employees welcoming and conversing with all guests, Harleysville’s Peeps Diner aims to establish a community-oriented restaurant.
Peeps Diner opened to the public August 29.
Located on 333 Main St. in Harleysville, Peeps Diner serves breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The building was once occupied by China Garden, a family-operated takeout restaurant.
Peeps Diner offers daily breakfast and lunch specials, sandwiches, salads, sides and breakfast staples, as well as kids meals.
According to server Mike Hanefy, Peeps Diner aims to provide a comforting feeling to its customers by making guests feel welcome.
“It’s a very homey, personal place. We don’t do anything too out of the ordinary,” Hanefy said. “It’s a very family-oriented place even though a lot of us aren’t related. We’re a very tight-knit group.”
According to junior Abby Nyce, the recognizable faces provide a sense of comfort.
“It was very homey, it was super cute and it had such a communal tie,” Nyce said. “There were people that I’ve seen in the community there.”
Many customers have noticed the alertness of their server and the speed of their cook.
“They were very attentive, and I got a coffee refill three times,” Nyce said. “[My waitress] would always ask [if I needed any refills.] She was very accommodating and our server was the sweetest,” Nyce said.
Freshman Chris Sagastume had a similar experience with his waiter.
Sagastume said there was quick service when ordering.
“It felt like I was treated like family, and really tended to by the waiter,” Sagastume said. “I was attended to quickly and kindly.”
Being in the center of Harleysville, the new establishment is bringing the community together and often turning new customers into regulars.
“Our clientele is I would say 70-80% return customers. We have people who sit in the same seat every day, order the same meal,” Hanefy said. “I get to see folks that I went to school with, that taught me, that I was disciplined by, that [complimented]me for doing stuff. It’s cool to see all the aspects of life.”
Peeps Diner offers the “Peeps Diner Breakfast Special” with eggs, bacon or sausage and French toast for $9.95.
They advertise their “farm fresh eggs” cooked in any requested style.
“The French toast and eggs [from the breakfast special] both tasted really good and the pricing of it all was very affordable,” Sagastume said.
