Con: Drinking dairy milk raises serious concerns

Studies show time and time again that drinking dairy milk doesn’t provide its rumored benefits, but actually leads to many negative effects. Drinking dairy milk has serious links to health concerns.


Due to many tests showing dangerous side effects of dairy milk, drinking it should be a serious thing to consider for everybody. Dairy can lead to several severe health issues, regardless of fitness level and health.

Milk is a very common drink among American people.

According to Statista, the U.S. consumed 20.975 million metric tons of milk in 2022. This was the third highest amount in the world. 

With large quantities of dairy milk being consumed, many are unaware of the very serious health risks that come with it. 

Milk and other dairy products are the top sources of saturated fat in America. Saturated fat contributes to heart disease, type two diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). 

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, while Alzheimer’s and diabetes are seventh and eighth. 

Links to heart disease and other conditions should be taken seriously, but some people that believe they are on the healthier side think there’s nothing to worry about.

A low-fat diet can also help decrease the chances of cancer, making an argument that milk has risk factors for everyone.

According to a study funded by the National Cancer Institute, when comparing the diets of women diagnosed with breast cancer to those without breast cancer, they found that those who consumed the most American cheddar, cream cheeses and milk, all of which are dairy products, had a 53% higher risk for breast cancer.

So, even if somebody thinks they are healthy enough to avoid disease, removing dairy from your diet can be beneficial in terms of cancer prevention.

With many signs pointing to a negative outlook on dairy milk, many people argue that milk helps make bones stronger and harder to break. Most kids heard this from their parents to drink their milk, but it is a medical myth. 

According to an analysis from the “British Medical Journal,” most studies fail to show any link between dairy intake and broken/fractured bones. 

Instead of milk making bones stronger, there is evidence pointing to the opposite.

Another study of more than 96,000 people found that the more milk men consumed as teenagers, the more bone fractures they experienced as adults, according to PCRM. 

While it is important to focus on milk affecting oneself, it is also something to keep in mind for infants, who cannot control or monitor their own diets.

In the first year of life, it can be dangerous for babies to drink dairy milk. Milk can cause their intestines to bleed, which may lead to iron deficiency anemia, according to Tufts Medical Center.

Based on the many downsides of drinking dairy milk and other related products, it is crucial that they are looked at and taken into consideration by anybody who plans on consuming them.
