SAVE club to hold Santa in the Greenhouse event
To raise money for greenhouse supplies, the Students Against Violating the Earth (SAVE) club greenhouse growers will be holding the Santa in the Greenhouse event on December 11 from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. at the greenhouse on the Souderton Area High School campus.
By selling poinsettias and amaryllis plants that were grown in the SAHS greenhouse, the SAVE club’s Santa in the greenhouse event will be used to raise money to keep the self-sustaining greenhouse program running.
According to SAVE club co-advisor Kimberly Wilson, the Santa in the Greenhouse event did not occur in 2020 due to complications with Covid-19, making a dent in the greenhouse’s budget.
The money raised from the Santa in the Greenhouse event is not only used to purchase supplies for the greenhouse, but to also provide more opportunities for community outreach, and to start a composting system.
At the event, poinsettias, amaryllis and other house plants will be for sale, along with hot chocolate and cookies.
The greenhouse will be opened for attendees to explore. There will also be live music provided by members of SAHS’s jazz band, a Santa, and a photo booth with props.
Wilson said that this event will “bring everyone together in a fun environment” while introducing the community to the greenhouse.
According to Wilson, the greenhouse is not only available to use for the SAVE club, but also for the plant science class, AP and academic environmental science classes, and to anyone who needs to use it for scientific purposes.
