Going to lessons and interacting with the community, locals went country line dancing at the Keystone Steam Fire Engine Company of Boyertown on May 10 from 8-11 p.m.
According to DJ and line dance instructor Becky Noviello, she got into the country line dancing business about two and a half years ago thanks to her friends.
“My girlfriends invited me out to a line dance under DJ Nugget at Gilbertsville Fire Company, and I was hooked,” Noviello said.
She operates under “Boot Scootin Becky” online and leads various Country Line Dances in the area, including an hour of lessons beforehand.
For country line dancer Jadyn Richards, she started going to dances in high school with her friends and has stuck with it.
“I didn’t know any dances until they kept pulling me in,” Richards said, “and then I just kept running dances, and I fell in love with it.”
Country line dancing is one of Richards’ “favorite pastime” activities, and she tries to do it when she can find the time.
“I would greatly recommend it to people because you’ll make a lot of new friends,” Richards said.
As per country line dancer Kim Little, she has been going line dancing every other weekend with her friends for the last four years.
“I love it,” Little said. “It was just on a whim. My one girlfriend wanted to go try it, and I just stuck with it.”
Besides getting to spend time with her friends, Little believes that country line dancing is a “great way to exercise” and meet “so many interesting people.”
Country line dancers Sarah Goslin and Melanie Wenger have a similar story to Little. Goslin went with her friend three years ago, and the next time she went, she brought Wenger with her. They have stayed with country line dancing ever since.
“It’s just a fun environment,” Goslin said. “If you like to dance, you should come and try it because it uses everything, not just country music. It covers all genres.”
Wenger feels the diversity of the people who go to country line dances makes the experience worth it.
“I like that there’s lots of different ages, and there are people who are advanced who help the beginners,” Wenger said.
First-time country line dancer Ashley Alvarez found herself and her family at the Keystone Steam Fire Engine Company of Boyertown for country line dancing as a Mother’s Day present.
“We wanted to do something for Mother’s Day, and I’m really into country music,” Alvarez said. “It’s definitely worth it.”
