Displaying a variety of two and three-dimensional art pieces, the Spring Art Show on May 9-10 showcased student talent from multiple grade levels.
Showcasing art from students in elementary school through high school, the opening reception on May 9 was considered somewhat more exciting, according to art teacher Sabrina Pistoria.
“A lot of people tend to come to opening night,” Pistoria said.
May 10 was another opportunity for students and families to see the artwork.
It is normally more of a “relaxed” day, Pistoria said.
The exhibition is especially important for seniors, as they have worked to complete Art I through Art IV.
To display of all of their efforts, each senior gets a panel to design.
Senior Hannah Hosterman said she loves to see how everything came together for the show. “I love to see everybody’s personalized senior walls and what they pulled together,” Hosterman said.
Not only does the show host a variety of age groups’ work, but there are a variety of different art mediums displayed in the hallways.
“We, as teachers, hang on to artwork from all of our classes, so there are a variety of types of media that we hang on to,” Art teacher Lauren Bauer said
The artwork can vary from paintings and drawings to sculptures, and even clay sculptures and clay projects, according to Bauer.
Family and consumer science teacher Tara Weismantel’s fashion students also displayed their work.
A lot of different variables play into deciding whose art will be in the show.
Art teacher Christine Piston has a lot of questions that she answers in her head what pieces to include in the show.
Questions Piston considers include “Are they showing good craftsmanship? Were they creative? Did they think about something unique, not the normal project, or an example they might find on Pinterest? Did they take it above and beyond to make it more personal?”
Not only does Piston focus on the project prompt aspects, but Piston also takes into consideration students’ growth.
“If I noticed them growing and gaining more skills and confidence, then I felt that those projects deserved to be recognized for all of that hard work,” Piston said.
For art teacher Sean Redmond, the annual show is a great way to make students feel a “sense of pride.”
