Due to player performance, and coming off an Eagles’ Super Bowl win, Philadelphia fans are optimistic about their performance in the next Philadelphia sports season.
The MLB season starts in late March and goes until late October.
The Phillies, like other teams, look to not only go to the playoffs, but also go as far into the playoffs as they can.
According to sophomore Aidan Graham, he looks forward to the season and expects to see the Phillies go far in October.
“I think the Phillies are beyond capable of a deep playoff run, so I have pretty high expectations for them,” Graham said.
The MLB season is one fans look forward to, and with that, fans hope their team does well and have high expectations for their team.
“I think they will do well,” freshman Ben Stauffer said. “My expectations are that we make the World Series.”
Fans want their team to do well, but nothing is guaranteed. Fans look forward to the year and have wishful thinking when it comes to the season.
Similar to a preseason in other sports, baseball has spring training, where they play a couple of games before the regular season.
“I think spring training has an accurate representation of how the season will go,” Stauffer said.
Fans watch spring training to get ready for the season. “I watched a couple spring training games,” Bollinger said, “I think we will do pretty good this season.”
Watching their favorite team is great, however, fans appreciate going to games and watching in person.
“I typically go to a few Phillies games a year, and I love them,” Stauffer said.
Some fans go to games for the players while some go for the team. Whatever the reason, some fans don’t skip past the smaller details, like the ballpark itself.
“Home Phillies games in the evening are my favorite,” Graham said. “Citizens Bank Park is beautiful at that time of night.”
According to Graham, the Phillies have a strong spring training record which could give a “bright outlook” to how they will do in the regular season and playoffs.
“The Phillies had the best spring training record out of all the teams in the NL East so I think that could give a bright outlook of how the regular season will go,” Graham said.
Many fans have their teams they root for, but sports are more than just the teams; fans have players they also root for.
“My favorite players are Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper,” Stauffer said.
According to Bollinger, Bryce Harper should do very well this season and score a significant amount of runs based on his previous performance in past seasons.
“I think Bryce Harper will do very good this season and hit a lot of home runs,” Bollinger said.
Given the team’s recent progression and overall outlook, fans show anticipation for this upcoming season. “I’m feeling good about this season, it should be a good one,” freshman Jackson Doorley said.
Injuries happen, and there’s nothing that can prevent them, it can happen to anyone, and no matter the injury, the majority of fans don’t want them to happen.
With an injury there could be a large or small impact on teams depending on the importance of the player affected.
“If injuries happened in the beginning of the season, that’s better than at the end of the season when we need players most,” Bollinger said, “But it would be better if there were no injuries, you hate to see things like that happen.”
