In order to pave a path to success, the baseball team has made powerful connections and bonds with their fellow teammates by spending time with each other not just on the field, but also outside.
According to baseball coach Mike Childs, giving the team captains freedom in what they do keeps them driven.
“By giving [the captains] ownership, I think it helps them develop, therefore keeping them motivated to do things,” Childs said.
Childs believes that if the players build close relationships with their teammates, it is going to be a victorious outcome for the team.
“I’m in it for these guys, whatever is gonna make them successful and happy through the season as a team,” Childs said.
Outside of school, senior Connor Klock enjoys spending time with his teammates after successful games and the connections between all the players.
“Winning big games and going out to team dinners after is always fun,” Klock said. “I think it is always a good bonding moment.”
Additionally, Klock said that he and his teammates have great friendships that he feels are different.
“Your teammates are your brothers, you’re really close to them,” Klock said. “You have been growing up playing with them your whole life. So I feel it is like a different type of bond that you have with them compared to anyone else.”
Klock shared a positive thing that the upcoming season will bring.
“I’m really excited about being able to play with my teammates for another season,” Klock said.
According to senior Tyler Lutz, winning a big game has helped the whole baseball team come together and become closer.
“When the team wins, especially if it is a big game, everyone comes together to play, which helps us to keep up our game,” Lutz said.
When talking about his teammates, Lutz said he was excited to be playing with them for his last season at the high school.
“I am excited for the upcoming season,” said Lutz.
“The team and I are all excited to see what it will bring.”
On the field, senior Tyler Deery said that he is constantly surrounded by great people.
“I have grown up with these guys and have played with them freshman to senior year,” Deery said.
“When playing with them, it is always a great opportunity and environment.”
Derry said that one of his favorite things to do with the team is go down to Aberdeen because the whole team is there, and the experience is unforgettable.
“Every year, the team goes down to Aberdeen and has dinner,” Deery said.
“The experience in the hotel with your friends and the environment makes it a really fun trip to go on.”
Deery also said that it is good to be around his teammates because they help to keep him motivated to try harder.
“Everybody on the team is committed to being better,” Deery said. “It really helps push all of us to be the best we can be which benefits the team.”
