In hopes to play a bigger role in the community, the Clay Club has been enrolling in a variety of local art shows and events to expand their talents further.
According to advisor Sean Redmond, Clay Club is a great opportunity to “make friends” and to be creative.
“A lot of students don’t get the opportunity to take clay, and it gives them a chance to try it,” Redmond said. “Then, it’s just a really great way to hang out with and make friends, [projects], and you get to keep it with you, too.”
Along with making projects, “Clay Club is awesome because the community ties are really great” Redmond said.
The community of the club is one of the reasons that keep people coming back. “ You meet a lot of really cool people,” Redmond said.
Clay Club president Ronan Carolan feels that the club is a great start for people who like art and want to become part of a community.
“It is a great way for people to do as they like with art,” Carolan said.
To add to this, clay club President Elizabeth Kane feels the club environment is relaxed.
“It’s just a great space to just dip your toes in to see if you like clubs, and to see if you like anything like this,” Kane said. “It’s just a really good starter club.”
For many of the students who participate in the Clay Club, it is the start of their creative journey.
“There’s some really talented artists that really inspire you to start creating things or to take other classes,” Redmond said.
Along with opportunities to do art after school, the clay club also has opportunities to show off students’ work outside of school.
“I also like its initiatives for me to take part in Art and Soulfest and sell stuff” Carolan said, “so it’s a great way to connect with the community.”
The Clay Club will have a table at Art and Soul on March 15, and they will also be in other community art events in the coming months of May and June.
Clay Club gives students multiple options of what to do with their work when they finish it
“It’s up to everyone,” Kane said. “You don’t have to sell it. You don’t have to put it in the Art Festival or Art show. You can just take it home. You can literally trash it and crumble it or you can use it for its purpose if it’s something like a mug.”
Clay Club is supportive community for artistic students
To open more outlets for students to be creative, the Clay Club participates in art shows throughout the community. The club meets every Thursday after school.
