The reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will face each other to crown a winner to the ‘24-’25 NFL season.
The Super Bowl is set for New Orleans on February 9.
No team in NFL history has won three consecutive Super Bowls, but the powerhouse Chiefs who are powered by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and tight end Travis Kelce have the opportunity to rewrite the history books. Mahomes and the Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl four times in the past five years.
The Eagles, lead by quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and head coach Nick Sirianni have a chance to get revenge for Super Bowl LVII where the Chiefs and Eagles played a historically fun and entertaining game, but the Chiefs would squeak out a three point win against the birds.
The Chiefs are set as 1.5 point favorites over the Eagles for Super Bowl LIX, as compared to their match up in 2023 where the Eagles were favored by two points.
The Chiefs, who went 15-1 in the regular season, have been underestimated by NFL fans all season especially during the playoffs for their ability to win close games. NFL fans believe it is a matter of time the Chiefs lose a close game this season, however the Chiefs are 12-0 in one score games this season (playoffs included).
The Eagles, riding high off an utterly dominant 55-23 beat down of division rival Washington Commanders, seek to use the bye week before the Super Bowl to rest up injured players and to make a game plan to hopefully take down the Chiefs who are 3-1 in the Super Bowl.
The Eagles hope to have notable offensive linemen Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens healthy for the Super Bowl as they both played through injury in the win versus the Commanders in the NFC championship game.
The Chiefs seem to be relatively healthy looking ahead to the Super Bowl, as no starter was on the injury report for them in their 32-29 win versus the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game.
While the Eagles made the Super Bowl in 2023, many of their key defensive players that season either retired or left in free agency.
Notable Eagles Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Cooper Dejean, Quinyon Mitchell and Jordan Davis have never experienced the atmosphere of the Super Bowl and Andy Reid could look to the inexperience of the Eagles defense as a key way of beating the Eagles.
The Chiefs’ roster has stayed relatively the same, only notably losing cornerback L’jarius Sneed in this past offseason.
However, the Eagles famously acquired Saquon Barkley this offseason, hoping he would be the final piece to solve the puzzle of winning a Super Bowl.
Barkley has been a game changer for the Eagles during the playoffs.
Barkley, who played in all three of the Eagles’ playoff games, has accumulated 147.3 rushing yards per game totaling 442 total rushing yards and stacking on five touchdowns, as well.
Barkley is averaging just under two touchdowns per game this playoff run.
The Chiefs will come prepared for Barkley, however, as the Chiefs have the eighth best run defense in the league in the ‘24-’25 season.
The Chiefs are looking for six time pro bowler Chris Jones to be able to neutralize Barkley and the Eagles run game.
The Chiefs and Eagles are set to tear the house down with both offensive units being on fire and both teams being on a roll defensive heading into the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIX will mark Mahomes’ fifth Super Bowl appearance in six years and the Eagles third Super Bowl appearance since 2017.
The Eagles’ best hope of defeating the Chiefs in the Super Bowl is for their monster defensive line to be able to get to Mahomes.
Headed by Jalen Carter, the Eagles defensive line is made up of Josh Sweat, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.
The Eagles need to hope their defensive line is able to pressure Mahomes by only rushing four and have the rest of the defense be able to play coverage in order to limit the formidable Kansas City Chiefs’ passing offense.
