To get into the holiday spirit, local businesses in the Souderton area are starting to set up festive decorations and add new, holiday-themed food to their menus.
Holiday menu items are a big part of this upcoming season and customers at the Franconia Cafe in Souderton tend to love the seasonal flavors that come around this time of year.
“We always carry a special coffee and we always try to do something with pancakes that are seasonal,” Franconia Cafe manager Pam Brunner said. “This year we are going to try either sweet potato or gingerbread and our Christmas Coffee will be Almond Kringle, which customers usually love.”
The Broad Street Grind in Souderton is coming out with four drinks this year inspired by “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, “Elf”, “The Polar Express” and “Home Alone”.
“During the holidays, we have four seasonal drink. This year we will be doing holiday movie-themed drinks, which is exciting,” Broad Street Grind employee Maddie Nalbach said.
Another big part of the season is the decorations that are set up.
“We will put up a Christmas tree at the front door and the staff will be allowed to wear holiday shirts, earrings or a Christmas hat if they want to,” Brunner said. “We also put up some garland over the windows and the mirrors.”
Trying to create a festive feel in the atmosphere, Broad Street Grind employees set up lots of decorations in the store for the holiday season.
“We put up Christmas lights, a tree,” Broad Street Grind manager Pam Nalbach said. To add to the decorations at the Broad Street Grind, “we wrap the poles in white garland, we decorate the mantle, we put ornaments around the shop,” Maddie said.
To gain a sense of community for the people around the area, The Franconia Cafe provides a space where people can eat, as well as talk about the holiday season.
“People come here, they want to talk to each other about the holidays, they want to talk about their different traditions and they just want that sense of community so that is what we provide for this area,” Brunner said.
The Franconia Cafe provides a place for those who want to be social. “Because a lot of people feel lonely during the holidays, we try to have heartier, heavier meals so people can come here to get a full meal and get out socially,” Brunner said.
