To show their in-school festivity around the holidays, students and teachers participate in holiday festivities like decorating and dressing up for fun during the holidays.
For English teacher Krysten Momsen, Halloween is a time where she can “match the rigor and stress of school” and pair it with some fun.
“I start [decorating] the second week of September,” Momsen said. “I want to enjoy it as long as I can.”
Momsen enjoys making the holidays special for both her students and her own children because “the kids love them so much,” and they “get so excited” for certain decorations in her room.
Momsen likes to use the joy of the holidays to lighten up negative energy in the world
“There is so much negativity in the world in so many areas,” Momsen said. “I think whenever there is an excuse to celebrate and enjoy life with the people you care about, you should go for it.”
Momsen has no shame when it comes to going all out for the holidays.
“If you love something,” Momsen said, “you should not feel ashamed to enjoy it as much or as little as you want to.”
Even though Momsen goes all out for the holidays, she still has values she likes to keep in mind during the holiday season, Halloween and otherwise.
“A big thing to keep in mind is to not worry so much about stuff, as cliche or trite as it might be,” Momsen said.
Math teacher Kimberly Houser shows her spirit by giving back to the Souderton community and volunteering for community events whenever she can.
Houser and her husband try to be “very active in the Souderton community,” as much as they can.
“We try to give back,” Houser said, “and now our children are also at their young ages trying to give back, too.”
According to Houser, she and her family participate in the holiday parade around the holidays, volunteer to help out during Third Fridays and enjoy being a part of the community year-round.
For Houser, the “art of giving” is what is important during the holiday season.
“I think the greatest thing we can give during the holiday season,” Houser said, “is a blessing to put a smile on somebody’s face.”
Freshman Izabelle Taylor gives out small gifts to her friends to make school “a little less stressful.”
“Something I always do around the holidays,” Taylor said, “is give out candy to my friends.”
For Taylor, spending time with family during the holidays, being respectful to other people and enjoying the holidays even if it’s just by eating food is what the holiday season is about.
Freshman Maraea Scott participates in spirit weeks and dresses festively during the holiday season.
Scott’s goal is to “bring a sense of cheer and happiness to everybody else.”
“For Halloween, I was Mario and my friend was Luigi. We got our idea from Pinterest,” Scott said.
Scott wears Christmas-themed clothing during the Christmas season to show off her festivity both inside and outside of school.
“I enjoy the holidays from Halloween to Christmas because of the memories I have of them,” Scott said.
