By holding a fundraiser after school on October 30, the Souderton rock band raised money for the program.
The fundraiser represented an attempt to raise money for new equipment.
“We started these fundraisers as a way to modernize our technology,” rock band teacher Tucker said. “So our first fundraiser was last November, and we went fully digital with that.”
The rock band has held several fundraisers over the past years, almost always to buy new and better equipment for their performances.
“We did another fundraiser in February that actually paid for things to make rehearsal easier,” Tucker said.
Tucker said that the purpose of this fundraiser was to raise enough money to purchase a lighting rig.
Rock band members are also interested in the possibly purchasing a smoke machine to enhance future performances.
Senior bassist and vocalist Charlie Whiteman was also excited for his participation in the event.
“I’m most excited for the songs that I’m going to be singing because I feel like this year I’m kind of branching out and putting myself out there more than I’ve been the past couple years,” Whiteman said.
Even though Tucker oversees the rock band, he credits much of the work to senior rock band members Vienna Fulginiti and Wilson.
“We have been working on this fundraiser since around August,” Fulginiti said, “but a lot of the general planning started around [August] last year.”
According to Wilson, the rock band is grateful and happy to accept any donations they receive.
“We don’t really have money goals, more of what we want to be able to buy, and we just do our best to get there,” Wilson said.
The culmination of both Fulginiti and Wilson’s efforts happened on October 30.
“It went absolutely amazing,” Fulginiti said. “Both our band and the opener went above and beyond with their stage presence and the sound overall.”
Wilson also found the fundraiser to be enjoyable.
“I think it was the best we could have made,” Wilson said. “It was a lot of fun getting to dress up and hang out with people while we’re all getting ready together, and this one was a lot less stressful than last year’s fundraisers because we kind of knew what we were doing the day of.”
According to Fulginiti the event was successful.
“Overall, I think it was a huge success,” Fulginiti said. “We had the largest pit we have ever had and the crowd was super responsive. So far we have raised $2,500 through ticket sales and online donations.”
Even though this event was a success, the rock band is not done yet.
“We are going to have another fundraiser later in the year, and it’s going to be the same [type of event],” Wilson said.
Fulginiti is happy to see how far rock band has come since she started performing with them.
“We went from three performances a year to a fully digital soundboard, in ears and now a lighting set up,” Fulginiti said. “That growth, to me, is priceless.”
