After much planning and hard work from the high school’s Student Council, a tailgate and football game took place on October 4, followed by the annual Homecoming dance on October 5 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Many students appreciate the dance every year due to its timing, which allows for a beginning of the year celebration.
According to Student Council advisor Melissa Kling, the dance, and weekend as a whole, is a great opportunity for students to get together with their friends and celebrate their accomplishments so far in the school year.
“I always think that Homecoming is our most attended dance, but also it is just a good way to get back to school and see everyone,” Kling said. “It’s a great way to celebrate and enjoy being together.”
According to Student Council representative Riya Mehta, “Students should attend the school dance because it’s a super fun event. It’s a blast to go with your friends and even more fun to get ready. It’s an amazing way to start the school year.”
Junior Mahi Patel said the dance helps students connect with each other and sets a positive tone for the year.
“I do think it’s important to have the Homecoming dance at the beginning of the year because it’s a fun event to start off the school year and it helps bring so many people closer together,” Patel said.
Freshman Grace Longenecker, the week building up to her first Homecoming was exciting as she and her friends prepared for the event.
“I’m so excited because I’m going to my friend’s house to eat and get dressed up with makeup,” Longenecker said, “and then after we are done at the dance we are going to have a huge sleepover.”
Not only did the dance itself provide a fun and social atmosphere, but the Homecoming football game and tailgate did, as well.
“The one thing that I was very excited about leading up to Homecoming was the tailgate. It was a very fun experience last year and I couldn’t wait to do it again with all my friends,” Patel said.
The positive feedback from the first tailgate last year allowed for it to take place again.
“We are bringing back the tailgate for the second year. They did it earlier, but we are doing it again this year. We do have a lot of people going. I think that it’s over 300 people who bought the tailgate package so that’s really exciting,” Kling said.
Finding out who won the Homecoming court was also an exciting feature of the game for many.
This year’s homecoming king and queen were seniors Bryce Solly and Isiyah McFadden.
“My favorite part about the game and the tailgate was finding out who won the Homecoming court and just chilling with my friends and preparing to have an amazing weekend,” Patel said.
Homecoming celebrates community
Homecoming weekend, consisting of a football game, tailgate and dance, provided students with an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the school year and to have some fun with friends.
