Following the loss of an undefeated title, the boys soccer team continues to grow in accomplishments as a team- not just through their abilities but their bond as well.
After losing their game against Central Bucks (CB) South on September 17, the boys soccer team continued to strive for success and work towards reclaiming their winning streak.
“We knew it was going to be a dog fight,” striker Tannor Wiszneski said. “But now we’re back on the winning streak.”
According to team captain Colin Hughes, the team proved that they were up for more challenges following the difficult loss.
“The next day, I don’t think I had ever seen us more determined at a practice,” Hughes said. “We knew that we had to perform better, we knew we were better than that.”
Hughes believes that the team has proven to be very successful this year, and will continue to be just that.
“We’ve had the best start in Souderton history,” Hughes said.
As it stands, the team holds Suburban One league records, as well as the accomplishment of scoring three goals within one minute and 49 seconds, something unheard of in Souderton history.
According to Wiszneski, the team holds the rank of 19th in the country for boys high school varsity soccer teams, alongside the rest of their record.
Head coach Frank Demas feels that the overall effort the team has given this season is what makes their records stand tall.
“Success for us is work ethic,” Demas said.
“We haven’t been out-worked in one game all year by anybody. We out-work everybody, it’s what we do.”
The strenuous determination and effort that comes from the boys is what makes this year so different from the rest, according to Hughes.
“For this team to continuously show that determination should tell you everything about our culture and our team,” Hughes said.
With their “baseline goals” being “work ethic” and “attitude,” Demas finds that the loss against CB South has overall benefitted the team.
“Ultimately, it was a learning experience for all of us,” Demas said. “We’re all still learning in high school.”
Center back Daniel Brun feels that success rises not only from skill, but from the bond that the team carries throughout their games.
“The main reason why we’re so successful is because of our culture, and it gave us one of the best records we have ever had,” Brun said.
Wiszneski finds the “culture” of the team to be just as important.
“I would not want to do this with another group of boys,” Wiszneski said.
Hughes sees this year to be one of the best, regarding the team’s record, along with their bond. “I think this year is very, very special,” Hughes said.
Hughes attributes the team’s success to the players’ mothers who help fundraise for their team.
“It wouldn’t be possible without them,” Hughes said.
