Cost cutting, production timelines, and a writers strike means that streaming services may be releasing fewer shows this summer, according to Variety, and while many teens are disappointed, they are attempting to find alternatives to keep themselves entertained.
According to freshman Chase Lewis, it is “very disappointing” that certain summer shows such as “Outer Banks” are rumored to not release a new season this summer.
“I have been watching ‘Outer Banks’ for years,” Lewis said. “It is one of my favorite shows.”
According to Lewis, he enjoys the plotline of “Outer Banks” and will be watching “Survivor” over the summer.
Although there is no release date planned for “Outer Banks,” Lewis is still excited to discover more series that are releasing this summer.
Freshman Haasini Matta said although one of her favorite summer series, “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” is not rumored to have a new season in the making, Matta feels that there are many other shows that she will be watching this summer.
“Recently I have been watching “X.O. Kitty,” “Bridgerton,” “My Life with the Walter Boys” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Matta said.
“I can’t wait for ‘Bridgerton’ season three,” Matta said, “I love how “Bridgerton” is based on going back in time and the royal family, whereas ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ are more action and drama-based.”
Matta feels like she will continue to watch and rewatch these series, especially with summer coming up quickly.
According to junior Kaylee Broyles, with the start of summer coming up she is excited to binge her favorite shows and films again.
“I love to watch a lot of movies and shows, but some of my favorites are ‘Outer Banks,’ ‘Mamma Mia,’ and ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ Broyles said.
Broyles feels like “Mamma Mia” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty” give off a lot of “summer vibes.”
“I love ‘Mamma Mia’ because it is very heartwarming and it takes place by the beach,” Broyles said.
“‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ is also very dramatic and takes place in a beach house half of the time,” Broyles said, “so it is very interesting.”
Broyles feels like these are the first movies and shows that come to mind when she thinks of summer.
Freshman Khema Heathers said she is also looking forward to binge-watching her favorite series this summer.
“Some of my favorite series would definitely be ‘Gilmore Girls,’ ‘Young Sheldon’ and ‘Shameless,’ Heathers said.
According to freshman Nyah Henderson-Torres, this summer she plans to go out and watch movies with her friends.
“I love going to the movie theater,” Henderson-Torres said. “There is always something new releasing.”
