Following the series finale of “Star Wars Rebels,” fans were left to question whether or not the Jedi Ezra Bridger was dead or alive. After six years of waiting, Lucasfilm finally gave us an answer.
The show features a live-action Ezra played by Eman Esfandi.
Not only is Ezra alive and well, but he is in a different galaxy.
In “Ahsoka,” the titular character and her padawan Sabine Wren both travel to the distant galaxy.
Although things don’t have a happy ending and they get stranded, they are able to send Ezra home.
After 11 years in a mysterious galaxy, who knows what Ezra has learned and will bring with him to the galaxy we recognize in all other Star Wars projects?
Along with Ezra, we also get our first look at Grand Admiral Thrawn, a menacing villain from “Star Wars Rebels.”
Reprising his role as Thrawn, Lars Mikkelsen gives an outstanding performance as the smartest and scariest villain in the galaxy.
“Ahsoka” ends with both Ezra and Thrawn returning to the Star Wars galaxy. Ezra goes straight to the rebellion, which is now the New Republic, and we don’t get another look at Thrawn.
Knowing that Thrawn is roaming the galaxy is intimidating, especially because he always has a plan.
Hopefully, his story picks up in future Star Wars projects and he can once again be a powerful, main villain in a show or movie.
This show displays many loved characters for the first time since they were featured in “Star Wars Rebels.”
Esfandi is a perfect Ezra. He looks just like he did in the cartoon and nails the performance.
Mikkelsen returns as Grand Admiral Thrawn after being the voice actor in the cartoon and he does not disappoint.
Sabine is played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo and although her casting is amazing, she lacks the character’s passion.
Rosario Dawson plays a great Ahsoka, however, Lucasfilm cannot figure out how to make her headpiece look good.
Star Wars fans have been watching Ahsoka for over 10 years and after getting used to a character that is iconic as her, it is hard to watch a live action version where the head tail is messed up.
One of the best aspects in this show is the addition of former Jedi Knight Baylan Skoll who is played by Ray Stevenson.
“Ahsoka” features him as a mercenary who plays a respectable morally gray villain in the show.
He is neither Sith nor Jedi, believing instead that he was brought to this new galaxy for a bigger purpose that the audience is not yet aware of.
Stevenson sadly passed away before “Ahsoka” aired and never got the chance to see how loved his character is.
Another touching aspect in the show takes place in the finale when Huyang, the droid responsible for the construction of thousands of Jedi younglings lightsabers, helps Ezra build a new one.
As Ezra scrambles around the workshop looking for pieces, Huyang tells stories of Kanan Jarrus, who was Ezra’s master who sacrificed himself to save the rebels.
The scene ends with Ezra using Kanan’s lightsaber hilt piece, which is a beautiful way to honor the fallen Jedi Knight’s memory.
“Ahsoka” ends with characters scattered throughout different galaxies and at different points in their stories.
The return of Grand Admiral Thrawn is a threat great enough to not only get the rebels back together, but maybe even set up appearances by other characters such as Luke Skywalker, Din Djarin or even Boba Fett.
“Ahsoka” sets up the universe for a potential reunion between dozens of beloved characters.
Star Wars fans have an exciting few years ahead.
